In small ways we can change the world, and I believe Small Business Saturday is one of those small ways. It makes us think about our neighbors and friends who offer services, who are makers and creatives, who are the small businesses still thriving in our midst, despite decades of watching the big companies get bigger and the demise of so many small companies in the changing economy. All this being said, of course, to participate in my own small way today by sharing the fruits of my recent labors, small paintings that were made betweentimes over the last few weeks to go into the small gallery in downtown San Jose I have been a part of for many years.
Earthwise is our spiritual way of interacting with and honoring the world. The four material elements are represented: sun for fire, cloud for air, rain for water and flowering vine for earth. These all represent the Blessings of the Mother and thus the fifth sacred element, Spirit, present within and all around us. This small painting is 8 x 10 inches and created with watercolor, gouache and iridescent golds with pens and brushes on Fabriano Artistico paper, in a bronze gilt wood frame.
Moonrise over water is beauty, always, especially at the full moon. The reflection of light on water is an amplification of the Mystery. This painting is 6 by 9 inches, made with watercolor, silver and pearl white paints with pens and brushes on Fabriano Artistico paper, framed in an 8 x 10 silver antiqued wood frame.
Goddess Bless is my tribute to the Great Mother whose path I have been following for many years. Thanks to my foremothers, there is a wealth of community, ceremony and scholarly research to support a path I felt alone on for much of my young life. Since discovering others of like mind and heart, both men and women, we have, in our small ways, brought the Divine Feminine alive in our families and circles. This painting is 7 x 14 inches, made with watercolor and gouache with pens and brushes on Fabriano Artistico paper; Schmincke platinum gold and Holbein pearl gold for highlights, framed.
These three paintings will go to my gallery Kaleid on Tuesday, November 27, with the show opening on Friday December 7 and running through the end of the month. For the next three days, however, they are available to any of my faithful readers who might be interested in them before they go to the gallery on Tuesday. Message me privately if so. Other paintings currently available at Kaleid may be seen on my page on the gallery’s website, which also has hours and location in downtown San Jose. Thanks for reading, and come visit me at my virtual storefront, Prose and Letters, anytime, for prints, cards and handmade limited edition books, all of which make thoughtful gifts for yourself or someone dear. If there is interest, I will share some of my process in creating these new pieces over the next few days as time permits. Now we move into the headlong rush of the next few weeks to the time of solstice, when the sun will seem to stand still. May we all have a few moments of peace and quiet during this time to rest ourselves and enjoy the bounties of the season.
Beautiful!
These are really beautiful — all very different but equally lovely. I especially like the threads of gold lettering that seem to float above the page on the last one.
