Pilgrimage Song in Denver Exhibit

Pilgrimage Song in Denver Exhibit

I’m so pleased that my book Pilgrimage Song has gone a-traveling to Denver and is presently showing in Abecedarian Gallery‘s juried exhibit Artists’ Book Cornucopia V. The show, an eclectic sampling of contemporary handmade books, runs through June 7.

My book is structured to evoke the pueblo’s central plaza where the women dance to the four directions and the four sacred mountains. The book may be unfolded in a variety of ways, but I do like to bring out its fourfold nature, the book itself having square dimensions when closed.  Some pictures of the process I used to paint the papers are in this post. I wanted them to seem like the gem full mountains, and full of the colors of the desert.

Thanks for your sharing this with us, Cari. I hope to see it “in person” sometime as it looks very handsome.

I’ve never gotten over a workshop with Suzanne Moore some years ago which had one segment on paste papers. She probably knew, also, that we’d never go beyond making paste papers, given the chance because it’s so addictive!

I’m glad you like it, Jane. It showed last year in San Francisco at the Hand Bookbinder’s exhibit there. Yes, Suzanne’s work has been very inspirational and influential for me!
