Crone Moon for October

CroneMooon_brighter_400px

This was the waning moon this morning at 5:11 before dawn. The crone moon rises just before the sun does; in another few minutes the sky was turning pale. You can see the hare on the face of the moon pretty clearly. I was playing around with the camera settings in the dark with a flashlight. The one below was the first one I got before I upped the shutter speed to get the Earthlight on the dark face of the moon. The moon will be completely dark in two more night’s time; when she waxes she will rise with the rising sun and so be very hard to see until almost to the first quarter. No, to see the darkened face of the moon, now is when you must look. But you must get up before dawn.

I love these photos, have just been out to see the newly waxing moon, and I came back indoors feeling very contented.
